highway killed the village
highway killed fashion
i was made by a milliner
ultrasuede by Halston
i’m hittn u early w #2 so i can clear the way for #1 tomorrow. i’m going to try and break down my thought process for this tune. it’s prolly my favorite lyric (of mine). i’m not a religious man, but the lord blessd me w ‘Old Hat’. drivn home 1day, a friend was on the phone complaining about the destruction of a neighborhood that once was the place he learned how to dance, to kiss, to play ball. he felt safe n its body of tiny, clean streets and houses; and it now had a highway stretching thru the heart of it. the chorus above jumpd on me. but, i had to wait for the rest of the song. i didn’t try to rush it. i’ve always luvd Halston, the 1st american fashion designer 2 b taken srsly by the europeans. his brand was gaslit by discoball lights, but i thot his streamlined approach to couture revealed a discipline and a design unto itself. it betrayed an artistic eye for the magic of shapes that i identified w. when i learned he started as a hatmaker - a milliner - i surmised this held his decorum. so, for the song i allowed Halston’s hand and his midwest, millinery origins to represent a craftsmanship that had ben lost when the loving wisdom of my friend’s village was bulldozed. and the bulldozer represented the muscular toys of the ever shallowing intellect and impatience intruding upon nature. Chris Bruce laid sum nasty guitar on it 4 me. i mixd it, which is y it sounds like bare terror and groove.

lyrics
Old Hat
(chorus)
Highway killed the village
Highway killed fashion, killed fashion
I was made by a milliner
Ultrasuede by Halston. We should all become
Old hat
Lost among the noise of muscular toys
Are all the old stories about old fashion, old fashion
I’m told that…
Black crows made mobile holes in
A blue sky that blew slow wind
Uptown was still low then
But now it’s all traffic. It’s all traffic. It’s all fast
chorus
(just give me some love)
He died without an heir to the castle. to the castle
To the throne
Think you’re the greatest just cause you’re the latest
Well, we all go, baby… to the rapture, to the rapture
With the ghosts
chorus
(just give me some love)
Rose passion from my clothes
Life is cold, the way it moves on without you knowin’
The last to a joke is the one they’re laughing, they’re laughing
At the most

Just a beautiful jazzy rap album with buttery smooth flows versed with huge talent. It's not only lovely to the ears, but the lyrics are profound and empowering about the struggles that she faces. zhangtastic
