the #16 song n our countdown of my favorites that i’ve recorded is ‘North Hollywood’. i have to thank Ian Rogers for giving me his copy of ‘Please Kill Me’ to read - which intro’d me to the mind of Richard Hell. it was the last push i needed to take George Clinton, Bad Brains, and Death and make ‘What Were You Hoping For?’. the lyric of ‘North Hollywood’ explains the song sufficiently. the recording sessions were more an enigma. n 2010 i took RUTHIE n2 a rehearsal studio and let her wrap herself around my demos. she did everything i askd of her and then took the music to a stratosphere i hadn’t imagined. we hunkered down n a los angeles studio and ‘North Hollywood’ was 1 of the 1st trax we finishd.
lyrics
north hollywood, north hollywood, that’s my neighborhood
hollywood, holly/north hollywood. girl, you got me hooked
i know you wish you could live in my neighborhood
home of low- and high-life crooks, so misunderstood
not in death valley, but in the valley there sits
an oasis of concentrated goodness
where i disappear - and the next sound you hear
is a melody over a viscous beat
north hollywood, north hollywood, that’s my neighborhood
she was taken in a mexican raid. girl, you got me hooked
i know you wish you could live in my neighborhood
1st stop on the subway train, so misunderstood
there are no more secrets after you’ve been evicted
your story sits on abandoned couches
politics of the kids in the low-level bounce houses
mark the world as one big skate park
north hollywood, north hollywood, that’s my neighborhood
for the glamour of her sister’s fame, her name was changed
i know you wish you could live in my neighborhood
Holly is just as she always was, a complicated love-child
she shook the american dreamer
and she stole my heart
emerging starlets, dressed virgin-esque
know the fastest way to a man’s pocket is on his rocket
hot, red schemes to steal the scene in the dreams
of the men who make the movies
north hollywood, north hollywood, that’s my neighborhood
she may not win your heart with just one look. but girl, you got me hooked
i know you wish you could live in my neighborhood
the crown jewel of saboteurs, holly remains pure

Just a beautiful jazzy rap album with buttery smooth flows versed with huge talent. It's not only lovely to the ears, but the lyrics are profound and empowering about the struggles that she faces. zhangtastic
