the #20 song n the countdown of my favourite tunes that i’ve recorded is ‘(Let it) Soak (n)’.
i was skimming thru comments the other day and sum1 mentioned this track as 1 they’d like 2 c n the countdown. THEN, i went 2 lunch w my kid0 and he said, “hey pops, u know which track of urs i discovered?” [w a slightly sinister glee he starts singn the hook to...u guessd it!] "dip ur love life n my coffee and let it soak n" - not often i am sent multiple signals about 1 of MY faves. so, it is w extra specialness i present this tune today. it was written spontaneously; while sitting - where else? - but at a coffee shop n North Hollywood. Randy Jackson had called and we were prolly discussing the completion of ‘The Fun Rises, The Fun Sets.’ Randy always said that the tune an album needs most usually comes at the end of the recording process. that assertion had been defeated by the crumbling music industry - not bcuz RJ was wrong, but bcuz what an album is and what an album “needs” had changed. still, there r times when i need this jam most. i had a David Bowie feel n mind for ‘Soak’, but i couldn’t get the lyric to escape its origins- which were me literally dipping a piece of danish love life into my warm coffee. and the inner-ruminator ran off w the song, at that point, w all kinds of suggestions 4 what could b dipped n2 what. lol
the width of the bass will cover ur entire head. the speaking voices u hear were recorded one day as i stuck a microphone out my window to capture airplane engines, birds, and whatever else. it was always a treat to find what was waiting for me on those recordings. i’ve always wished more people paid attention to the synthesizer in the lower right speaker. so...ear it is. mastered by Keith Gretlein.
lyrics
(let it) Soak (n)
(chorus)
Dip your love life in my coffee, babe
And let it soak in
You know that you rock me, babe
Now, let it soak in
(verse)
We once were cool when we were new
We were seduced by breaking rules
We chased our youth through the bloom
And needed a fuse to lighten the mood
chorus
Let me take the pressure of ye
Before it soaks in
Temperature may be shocking
Your body’s frozen
Your kisses land softly, baby
Now, let me hold them
verse
chorus
Step into my office
The door is always open
Dip your love life in my coffee, baby
Let me be your boyfriend

Just a beautiful jazzy rap album with buttery smooth flows versed with huge talent. It's not only lovely to the ears, but the lyrics are profound and empowering about the struggles that she faces. zhangtastic
