the #26 ‘chune in the countdown on the list of MY favourite songs i’ve recorded is ‘Falls (violet)’. i could have this song further up the list - it is very important to me. it’s not really the lyric that is so meaningful to me - altho’ i am proud of them - in fact, reading them now, i see how they foretold of my frustrations with the concept of “love”; which is just a fanciful snapshot of what real relationships are. we are like children who beg for cotton candy, receive it and then look immediately for the next treat; because candy doesn’t satisfy hunger. it isn’t our fault. it is the absurdity of trying to satiate animal drive within four walls. within the limitations of a paycheck. within shallow depths. all that to say, i’m really proud of the musical arrangement. the greatest compliment i rcvd on this track was when i was told that upon hearing it, a popular trumpeter whom i respect a great deal, called it “the Stravinsky of R&B”.
