the #4 song broke n on my thoughts as i was on the phone w the front desk of a NYC hotel. it FLASHED and made my knees buckle, slightly. the front desk informd me there was a car waitn downstairs. so, i only had time 2 mentally download the chorus - the rest would hav 2 sit til i returned 2 Atlanta. the chorus was a solution 2 a piano motif I'd gottn stuck on. havn had lil sleep and completely unsuspecting, the music breached my fog with a submarine's stealth. i can still remember its cloudy beauty. back n Atl, and armed wit a solution, i sat at my piano and let the song flow around me. every thing i tried, workd. everything line i wrote connected w the previous 1 n new, exciting ways, as the strangest song I'd evr written took shape. it was sweeping, cinematique. the lyric spoke of a crime of passion and a loss of control. but, at its core is a warning about ever believing u had control 2 lose n the 1st place. a keyboard player came n 2 record on bits & pieces. he said, "i can't believe u! u crazy genius! i can't wait 2 hear when it's finishd." lil did he know his was 2 b the cherry on top. i was dunn - and i think she came out perfectly. i always wondered if he evr heard the final product, and what he thot...
